The author was educated at Dulwich and Shrewsbury, served with the Fleet Air Arm and then studied horticulture at Seal-Hayne College in Devon. He then worked in Niger ia for several years as a tobacco leaf buyer for the British-American Tobacco Company, while studying the plants of Nigeria. After returning to England and settling in Chichester in Sussex, he opened a nursery and garden center with a comprehensive range of plants, including many that are rare or unusual. Uncommon hardcover edition of this out of print collection of interviews by Jonathan Cott with varied artistic luminaries Maurice Sendak, Henry Miller, Warner Herzog, Oriana Fallaci, Walter Lowenfels, Glenn Gould, Stephane Grappelli, and Harry Partch. Well bound and clean example. Binding is solid, sound. Interior is clean and free of marks, save for sticker residue on front pastedown. Front free endpaper lightly dog-eared. Pages have slightest sense of age toning but still bright and fresh. Dustjacket shows some wear, but looks sharp in new brodart. Handful of small closed tears, one larger closed tear at the bottom of the front panel alongside a sharp crease. Another pronounced crease on the back panel, and some much light creasing elsewhere towards the edges. Minor foxing to top of outer page block only. Altogether solid copy of an uncommon volume.
