Bound in 1/2 green morroco over pebbled green cloth boards with title lettering stamped in gilt to upper board. No labels or gilt to spine. Relatively obscure magazine of the late 19th century was apparently begun in Phil; adelphia and moved to New York about 1878. No examples located in any institurional holdings searched by Worldcat. This copy inscribed with Christmas wishes by one of the contributors, Charles W. F. Calvert (presumably a relation to the publisher). Dated 1882. Soundly bound with some shelf rubbing to leather over the corner tips and spine extremities. Mild gapping in the floral endsheets at the front hinge. Contents bright and clean. Rare. VG thus. . In the original paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart. A small amount of wear and loss to the head and tail of the spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. Some light spots and discolouration to the boards, marks a little heavier to the rear board. Faded ink inscription to the head of the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and clean with the occasional spot. Good. book.

Regarding their previous correspondence, Calvert has 'directions to request' Ridge to inform him, 'if you are aware of any Steps having been taken, for conveying back the Clothing for M: General Wattevelle's [sic] Regiment, from Sicily to Cadiz - where that Corps is now stationed'. From Cadiz the Watteville's Regiment would be transferred to Upper Canada, where it would take part in the War of 1812.
