Slight foxing to end inside covers and edge. Brown cloth with gilt decoration and lettering. Had Frank Harris died in 1914 - he was then about sixty years of age - he would be known to us first as the incomparable editor of the Saturday Review and friend of Oscar Wilde, and then as a writer. We would grant him his position in fin-de-siecle London, the London that was 'dying into a dance,/An agony of trance', and we would enjoy his moral and social eccentricities, much as we do those of Swinbourne, Whistler, and Wilde. We would be amused by his ragsd to riches story and we would like his standing up to Cecil Rhodes and the British government in support of the Boers. His last public act would have been a brave one - going to Brixton Prison in the cause of a free pass. His tidy legacy of short stories and his great biography of Wilde would have kept his memory alive. But the memory of Frank Harris, insofar as it now exists, is drawn from his last fifteen years, and it comes to most of us second-hand. His books have been out of print in England and American for almost thirty years. 983 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
