I am very pleased to be able to offer for your consideration a large and lovely two volume set titled: Wild Flowers of the United States The Northeastern States, by Harold William Rickettt of the New York Botanical Garden. This set includes both Volume One and Volume Two, both contained in a sturdy pictorial slipcase and with glasine dust jackets for each volume. These very large hard cover books (10 x 13 inches, with 560 total pages in the two volumes) was published by McGraw-Hill Book Company of New York in association with the New York Botanical Garden, dated 1967 and the Second Printing of the First Edition. Overall, the two-volume set is called Volume One which I think refers to the fact that there are other volumes dealing with other regions of the United States. According to the Preface: The idea of this book was to present all the wild flowers of the northeastern United States in color photographs and non-technical descriptions, so that for the first time the layman might be able to identify any he might find. The book is illustrated cover to cover with pages and pages of color photographs and also many pen & ink drawings enhancing the written descriptions further. The book is bound in wide weave garden green cloth with gilt and black decorations and titles on the spines. Condition: This set of books is in very good condition. The dust jacket has some light brown spotting, probably from smoke exposure along the upper edge of its paste-down label and shows some other wear including minor tears to its edges. It was bumped on the lower back corner as well. The books themselves are virtually pristine and although there is some minor flaking to the cellophane dust jackets along the spine, the bulk of the cellophane is intact and wrinkled as if it was never touched. Indeed, the hard covers are pristine, without bumping or wear and the gilt titles still very attractive (the new owner may choose to remove the now brittle cellophane dust jackets). Inside, the books are unmarked and the pages and plates are clean and bright from cover to cover in both volumes. All hinges are intact, and the bindings are tight, sound and square.
