Each issue approx. 10" x 7½", illustrated throughout with maps, plates (some folding, several in color), and illustrations in the text; original printed wrappers; occasional flaws but on the whole, very good. 45 issues in all (volumes I-VII in 4 numbers each); volume VIII in 2; volume IX in 3; and, volume X-XV in 2). Kailash is a scholarly journal focusing on the history and anthropology of the Himalayan region. "Printed on traditional rice paper in Kathmandu, Nepal, it is difficult to acquire and only a handful of university libraries have assembled a complete set" (Wikipedia). In fact, only the wrappers are printed on rice paper. With contributions on multiple subjects from many scholars, explorers, casual travelers, and local residents, including Alexander W. Macdonald, Marilyn Silverstone, Uttar Bahadur, Johan Reinhard, Theodore Riccardi, Jr., Peter Burleigh, Barbara N. Aziz, Shirley Kurtz Jones, Lynn Bennett, Dudjom Rimpoche, Niels Gutschow, David Snellgrove, Michael Vinding, Suzane van der Heide, and a host of others. Kailash was published regularly between 1973 and 1990 with one-year gaps in 1980 and 1986 and with several joint issues in print. In effect, it did not maintain its quarterly frequency and was published only two times a year after 1983. No issues of the journal were published between 1991 and 1994.
