Contains 190 pp with colour frontispiece and 17 text figures. Sadly the title page had been removed, however, Warne's date code to the second rear end paper states 722.350, ink name inside. Knight. Geoffrey Douglas Hale Carpenter (1882-1953) was a British entomologist and medical doctor. He worked at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and in Uganda, on tse-tse flies and sleeping sickness. His main work in entomology was on mimicry in butterflies, an interest he developed while in Africa. He succeeded E.B. Poulton as Hope Professor of Zoology at Oxford University from 1933 to 1948.

The lake has many names in local languages, but is known by 'Lake Victoria' as it was named after Queen Victoria in 1858.This particular work pays special attention to the sleeping sickness and the tse-tse flies, on which the author was known for his extensive study.Written by Gregory Douglas Hale Carpenter, a British entomologist.Thirty-two pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. Rebound in a cloth binding. Externally, smart. Spine is a little faded. A few light marks to the boards, mostly to the rear board. Front hinge is starting a little but remains firm.
