The first two volumes only of a three volume work, first published in Paris in 1678. This first Frankfurt edition was the second to be published overall.Du Fresne's work was of major significance in attempting to develop a historical perspective on the development of the Latin language, with an effort made to distinguish the medieval Latin vocabulary from its classical counterpart.
