Striking pictorial compilation of Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments, profusely illustrated with 87 engraved plates depicting the most famous Biblical scenes. Originally published in 1714, Hübner's "Biblische Historien" was designed for use in schools. It went through 270 editions and was translated into 15 European languages, making it "the most popular and longest selling Bible of its type". For clarification, he adapted biblical stories to more recent stories to teach values. Each plate has its caption in Latin, French and German. Rubbing on binding, with sporadic abrasion to calf. Tail of spine partly chipped. Front hinge starting. Sporadic foxing and browning throughout. Minor damp-staining in lower parts of very first and very last pages (not affecting text or illustrations). Text in German, Gothic script. Binding in overall fair to good-, interior in good to good+ condition.
