Previous owner's modern bookplate to front pastedown of each volume, very occasional pencil marks to margins of text. Foxing, some slight wear and a few short closed tears to the untrimmed fore and shelf edges, first and last few pages also a little foxed. A Good+ set overall. Contains (xxiv), 270 pp with 485 monochrome illustrations throughout on semi-loaded art paper. Green cloth covered boards with titling and illustrations stamped in gilt on front board and spine; illustrated. First edition of the first volume with no volume number on the spine. Very light toning to spine, with some rubbing and a few small nicks to spine ends. Some rubbing and very light bumping to corners of boards. Toning to first blank page, which is appears to be a slightly acidic laid paper. This page has a name written at its head, with some light chipping to the extremities of the page, and a 30 mm closed tear at the tail. Mild toning to half-title page. Interior otherwise clean and unmarked. Binding firm. An excellent copy of the first edition of Gulland's classic work on Chinese ceramics. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good.

Book expertly rebacked some time ago with original spine covering retained, considerable edge rubbing, corners bumped, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages with some occasional light finger soil to margins, some underlines in the chronological table and tiny notes in red in the margins of two pages, all plates present and in good to very good condition.
