Major-General Sir Francis Wilfred de Guingand (1900-1979) was a British Army officer who served as Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery's chief of staff from the Second Battle of El Alamein until the end of the Second World War.He retired from the army In February 1947 and emigrated to Southern Rhodesia to pursue a career in business, achieving considerable success. This book of memoirs of Africa is divided into five parts: Service with the K.A.R., 1926-7; Loangwa Journey; Some Hunting Adventures; To Finish My Story; and Southern Africa Revisited. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with very slight fading to the spine and a small stain around the bottom front spine corner. The bottom of the spine is lightly bumped. The contents are tight and clean with some light foxing on the half-title page. There is no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and light bumping to the spine ends. A 1" triangular piece is missing from near the corner of the bottom rear edge and there is a 1" tear at the top of the triangle. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear protective cover.

The book is protected in a red cloth chemise housed in a red morocco spined slip case, made by James Macdonald Co. New York. Spine with raised bands, ruled in blind. Lettered in gilt.
