At the same time, however, he has everywhere consulted the autography copy of Thomas a Kempis, completed in the year 1441. The division into verses is based on the system of A Kempis, while the second and third books follow both A Kempis and the German translation by Paul Hagen.' (p. The teachings found in every part of this book are his teachings, and its influence is the outcome of his work.
