Jack Griffith (Jackie Gleason), known to everyone as "Papa," goes a bit too far to impress his daughter Corinne (Linda Bruhl) after he's had a few drinks. 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine, with light even fading to two.

[nice clean book with no discernible wear; the jacket is also quite nice, with just a touch of age-toning here and there, minor edgewear]. "A collection of recipes of fine and unusual food, with anecdotes by the author concerning the people and circumstances which produced these recipes." A number of the people were various celebrities and movie folk with whom the author had hobnobbed back in her silent-era movie-star days, among them Greta Garbo, Gloria Swanson, and William Randolph Hearst. A former silent screen vamp ("Orchid of the Screen"), after her retirement early in the talkies era she married George Marshall (owner of the Washington Redskins) and eventually turned to book-writing, her most well-known tome being "Papa's Delicate Condition," basis for the 1963 Jackie Gleason film. At the time this recipe book (her third) appeared, she was still in her right mind, but by the mid-1960s she had kind of gone off the beam a bit: in 1965 she caused a bit of a sensation by marrying and quickly divorcing a 38-year-old realtor/singer (having previously divorced Marshall in 1958), and assured her place in the Wackiness Hall of Fame by claiming at the divorce proceeding that she wasn't the REAL Corinne Griffith at all, but rather a stand-in who had assumed the "role" in the early 1930s after MIss Griffith supposedly died in Mexico; this bizarre claim was in support of her declaration that she was actually only 51 years old (rather than 71) at the time. (Reportedly the whole sordid business served as the inspiration for Tom Tryon's novella "Fedora.").
