Bob Griese was an integral part of the 1972 Miami Dolphins' unmatched perfect season, capped by an impressive win in Super Bowl VII; But this book explores a more significant meaning of the word Undefeated. It is the story of public and private triumh--of two men who, individually and as part of a family, have faced life's challenges with the same character and commitment they displayed on the football field. They faced their biggest challenge in 1988 when Judi Griese, Bob's wife and Brian's mother, died of cancer. Brian was just twelve years old. How Bob and Brian Griese came through this time of grief and other tough battles in their lives is an inspiring, uplifting story. Having lost his own father to a heart attack when he was only 10, Bob understood his importance to his family; After Brian's mother died, Brian had to grow up faster and face the real world sooner than he wanted. But his father was there for him in every way. Bob set aside his own life and made sure that he had everything he needed for others. Robert Allen Griese (born February 3, 1945) is a former American football quarterback who earned All-American honors with the Purdue Boilermakers before being drafted in 1967 by the American Football League's Miami Dolphins. Griese led the Dolphins to a then record three consecutive Super Bowl appearances, including two Super Bowl victories in VII and VIII. Griese was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 1984 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990. He later worked as a television commentator, calling NFL games for NBC Sports and college football for ESPN and ABC Sports. Griese is one of three quarterbacks from Purdue to win the Super Bowl (along with Len Dawson and Drew Brees). Brian David Griese (born March 18, 1975) is a former American football quarterback and current color commentator for Monday Night Football on ESPN. He was drafted by the Broncos in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft. He played college football at Michigan. Griese played three seasons at Michigan, leading the Wolverines to the 1997 National Championship (as recognized by the Associated Press). He earned a Super Bowl ring with the Broncos in his rookie season, as a backup to John Elway in Super Bowl XXXIII. Elway retired after the Super Bowl and Griese became the starting quarterback for the Broncos during the 1999 season. Griese was a Pro Bowl selection with the Broncos in 2000. After leaving the Broncos he started at quarterback for the Miami Dolphins (5 games in 2003), Chicago Bears (13 games in 2006 and 2007) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (21 games in 2004, 2005, 2008). Both Bob and Brian Griese have led their teams through an undefeated season. But this biography explores a more significant meaning to living in victory. Both father and son have emerged bruised and battered but undefeated from some of life's toughest battles. In 1988, Bob Griese lost his wife and Brian lost his mother, Judi, after a five-year battle with cancer. When Bob made a decision to be a full-time dad to 12-year-old Brian, their shared grief, values, and commitment became the cornerstone of a very special father-son bond. Undefeated has all the makings of a dramatic, inspirational sports bestseller in the tradition of Dave Dravecky's Comeback. This story is for those who have experienced losses or setbacks in life (and who hasn't); It's the story of how a family of boys grew into men under the love and protec.
