Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Archaeological and anthropological investigations of depictions seldom extend beyond a single culture or a single geographical location, although there is a powerful factor common to all depictions, the factor of human perception. In this volume an attempt is made to show how this factor affects both creation and recognition of depictions, how, in common with everyday vision of the environment, typical contours are derived and used, not merely to depict individually readily recognisable models, but also how by concatenation they lead to such a splendid figure as Australian Kakadu crocodiles, or by distortion to creation of illusions of pictorial depth, such as is evoked by Leonardo da Vinci's perspective and by inverted (Byzantine) perspective thought by some to be an aberration. Bartel's studies show that pictorial depth is often achieved to the artist's, and many a viewer's, but not to geometer's satisfaction by partial distortion, and Chinese masterpieces embody, side by side, 'normal' and inverted perspective. The visual process is universally uniform (if it were not, one would not be able to recognise an Altamira bison as a bison) and its foibles can be freely exploited. Its best known exploiter is probably Cezanne. His pictures are admired by many and puzzle many. Strzeminski postulated that they compound distinct lines of sight, thus endorsing primacy of central vision, a concept thought by Gombrich to be of greater import to geometers than to artists.…

No Binding. Zustand: Good. About the Artist: Andrzej Pągowski is a Polish artist who specializes in graphic design and poster art. Pągowski graduated from The State University of Fine Arts in Poznan in 1978 and began to design posters. He also designs theatrical settings, prints and catalogues./ In 1990, he created his own graphic studio, STUDIO P. As an artist, his individualized posters evoke a range of moods and ideas. He claims to have created a separate concept for each of his many posters, saying: "Every poster for me is an individual exercise different from the previous one." His art can be found in many European museums as well as the MOMA in New York. He has also had one-man shows in Stockholm, Paris, London, and Warsaw./ About the Poster: Beginning in the 1950s and through the 1980s, the Polish School of Posters combined the aesthetics of painting with the succinctness and simple metaphor of the poster. It developed characteristics such as painterly gesture, linear quality, and vibrant colors, as well as a sense of individual personality, humor, and fantasy. It was in this way that the polish poster was able to make the distinction between designer and artist less apparent./ Polish posters have come to stand apart from the advertising design conventions fostered in Europe during the 20th century. It was during the communist regime, a time when culture was closely monitored by the state, that Polish artists found liberation in poster art. Ironically, this foremost public art form became ground for individual expression. During that period, the cultural institutions, of theatre and cinema especially, flourished as they were funded by government agencies. Artists freshly out of the fine arts academy flocked towards poster production as the demand for this art was rapidly growing. The result became some of the most unique and expressive posters the world has ever seen - and artworks in themselves./ About the Exhibition: Franciszek Andrzej Bobola Biberstein-Starowieyski (July 8, 1930, in Bratkówka, Poland February 23, 2009) was a Polish artist. From 1949 to 1955 he studied at Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and Warsaw.[2] He specialized in poster, drawing, painting, stage designing, and book illustration. He was a member of Alliance Graphique International (AGI). Throughout his career, his style deviated from the socialist realism that was prevalent during the start of his career and the popular, brightly colored Cyrk posters, however, he did create one Cyrk poster 'Homage to Picasso' in 1966. He was the first Polish artist to have a one-man show at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York in 1986./ The poster has ruffled margins. Ready to frame! This poster measures 25.5 x 36 inches.…
