Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine dj. Illustrated by (dj) Lydia Rosier (illustrator). First American Edition. [light age-toning to edges of text block, teeny-tiny bumps to a couple of corners; jacket shows only very light surface wear, and is unusual in that it has suffered almost none of the laminate-puckering that commonly plagues this book (just a touch along the front hinge)]. "A novel of violence and riveting suspense," best (and somewhat unfairly) known as the basis for the 1971 Sam Peckinpah film STRAW DOGS, which starred Dustin Hoffman as a mild-mannered academic who gets in touch with his Inner Beast after his wife is brutally raped by a bunch of rural Cornwall lowlifes (a scene, incidentally, that is not in the book). Author Williams has been widely quoted regarding his dislike for the film (which at the time of its initial release he called "neo-Nazi crap"); Peckinpah apparently returned the sentiment, once referring to the novel as "this rotten book." The book itself has gotten some proper respect, though, having once landed on a list of "100 Best Scottish Books of All Time.".

paperback.
