Hardcover. Zustand: New. Medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) are invaluable natural resources of use to human race, without which the survival of human/ animal race is incredible. There is an enormous diversity of plants which are put into medicinal, beauty care and culinary purposes. Cultivation of commercially important medicinal plants is in high demand as the global community is growing towards a green and herbal oriented approach. India as a country has thousands of years old traditional medicinal systems which rely solely on medicinal plants. There is a gradual loss of medicinal plants with the increasing demand of plant derived drugs. Majority of medicinal plants are still collected from the wild. This doesn't meet the demand and thereby pave ways to adulterants. The over extraction and ignorant activities cause biodiversity loss. Farm production of MAPs in these days is extremely vulnerable to underlying climate risk. Sustainable management of these resources requires urgent attention for environmental stability and improvement of livelihood. New income generating opportunities are opening up for rural populations and in particular for small-scale farmers as well as marginal farmers through MAPs cultivation. New generation are not well aware of the various uses of many plants to which it was put before. Thus there is an urgent need to spread the knowledge and conserve the wild populations of medicinal plant diversity in various forest areas of India. Considering the importance of the MAPs, an attempt was taken in this edited book to understand and highlight the role of MAPs in livelihood improvement and income generation through cultivation, conservation and utilisation. Most of the chapters in this book dealt with individual medicinal plants in detail. Two chapters have also been included on pests and diseases management of MAPs. Nowadays, IPR issues are more important. One chapter has been included on IPR issues on medicinal plants. A chapter also devoted on value addition of the medicinal plant products.

Entrepreneurship development through forest seed marketing/Litan Das, P.K. Pal and Pampi Paul. Seed is the primary input for productive forestry and for any afforestation program. In propagation and conservation of a species, seeds play a vital role. In recent years owing to greater emphasis on community forestry, wasteland development and to support the National, Mission for a Green India as a part of the "National Action Plan on Climate Change" the requirement of seed has multiplied manifold. Large quantities of seed are needed every year to raise the nursery stock for propagating the desired plant species. A plentiful supply of quality seed i.e., high in viability and vigour, is therefore one of the prerequisites to make such activities successful. Presently requirement of forest seeds has not been properly documented though some estimation has been arrived at quantifying the seed demand of various forestry species based on utilization of seed in the past. Seeds are the most suitable form to conserve and also a means to distribute the plant germplasm. The quality of seed depends on choice of seed collection stand, seed crop abundance, time of collection, handling and storage. The duration of the viability of the seeds in nature vary widely among species due to their varied maturation time and storage physiology. In view of the increasing importance of seed quality in forestry and the numerous challenges in handling, testing and storage of forest seed, present book is very important for the benefit of forest seed industry. In the significant advances that India made in forest science in the last four decades, the role of the seed sector has been substantial.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Albizia procera found in sub-Himalayan tract and Himalayan valleys grows up to an elevation of about 1,200 m in the Indian sub-continent. It has a great potential to be incorporated under social forestry programs due to its multipurpose use. However, the use of this species in plantation and in agroforestry system is not gaining popularity because of unavailability of quality planting stock. Seeds of Albizia species are exogenously dormant due to impermeable seed coat or pericarp to water which is responsible for low and irregular germination resulting in to low quality uneven stock. The identification of suitable dormancy breaking treatment holds great promise in the production of evenly grown nursery. The present volume is a dissertation work of the first author Gopal Shukla at master¿s level submitted to Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya (UBKV), Pundibari, Cooch Behar West Bengal (India) under the guidance of the second author Dr Sumit Chakravarty, Assistant Professor, UBKV Cooch Behar. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Biodiversity has attracted the attention of people in general and scientist community in particular because of increasing awareness of its importance on the one hand and the anticipated massive reduction on the other hand. Thus, in today¿s context of population explosion coupled with pollution, environmental degradation and climate change, the main concern is protection and production of bio-resources world-wide.The Earth Summit of 1992 particularly laid stress on the integration, conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. The prerequisite for this is to identify and quantify the biodiversity. The present volume deals with the cause, consequence and pattern of phyto-diversity of a sub-humid tropical forest ecosystem in foot hills of Indian Eastern Himalayas along with a comprehensive review of works related to above topic. The present volume is a doctoral work of the first author Gopal Shukla submitted to Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya(UBKV),Cooch Behar West Bengal (India)under the guidance of the second author Dr Sumit Chakravarty Assistant Professor, Department of Forestry, UBKV Cooch Behar.Presently Dr Shukla working as Research Associate at ICAR Research centre Ranchi.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 200 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Forests grow and their biomass increases; they absorb carbon from the atmosphere and store it in plant tissue. Understanding the biomass of forest vegetation is essential for determining the storage of carbon in the dominant tree component and computing carbon cycling at a regional as well as global level. This book consisting of five chapters will give a comprehensive understanding of biomass production vis-à-vis carbon storage in relation to litter and nutrient dynamics of the forest by analyzing the mode and magnitude of biomass production and carbon storage as a function of various silvicultural factors.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 112 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -This edited book covers all aspects of forest deforestation and degradation in detail and their link to land degradation. Poor natural resource management is often a contributory factor in the depletion of resources particularly like degradation of land which hinders the goals to achieve land degradation neutrality (LDN). Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 15.3 states: ¿By 2030, combat desertification, restore degraded land and soil, including land affected by desertification, drought, and floods, and strive to achieve a land degradation-neutral world.¿ To achieve the set goals a comprehensive multidirectional approach is required involving policymakers, field functionaries, researchers, and above all educators. The book compiles the field experiences and wisdom of some of the best researchers and authors working in the field of land degradations for quite a long time. The objective of the book is to disseminate the status of land degradation, the importance of achieving land degradation and share success stories of reclaiming Land degradation, and suggests means and ways of achieving land degradation neutrality. This book act as a repository of knowledge on Land degradation neutrality for students, researchers and practitioners, and policy planners.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 468 pp. Englisch.
