In 1939, he and Fritz Herzog are credited with solving the problem of balancing dynamos, an electric power problem which had remained unsolved since Faraday's time over a century earlier. Malti subsequently oversaw research on 3D modeling of Eddy currents.Born in Munich to a Polish-Jewish family, Michael Golomb (1909-2008) emigrated to the U.S.A. as a refugee fleeing Germany's Nazi regime in 1939. He was an instructor in mathematics at Cornell University from 1940 to 1942. With the advent of the war, Golomb assisted the Navy as chief of analysis at the Franklin Institute from 1943 to 1945. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for his efforts and became a U.S. citizen in 1945. In 1942, Golomb had joined the faculty at Purdue University, becoming full professor.
