Weiss, original red halfmorocco with richly gilt spine, marbled board covers, top edge gilt also designed by Weiss, with original protective dustjacket and original board slipcase preserved, folio (45,5 x 33,8 cm.). = Beautiful bibliophile production with the plates executed in the colltype photographic process, which nears the detail of the original lithographs of Delacroix in the first edtion illustrated by him of 1828. Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863) counts among the greatest colorists of the nineteenth century and is the leading artist of French Romanticism. Delacroix's illustrations for Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Faust are among his most accomplished interpretations in the field of the fine arts. Some foxing, as is almost inevitable - but we would in fact judge this copy a splendid copy.
