Jan Goeree was the son of the Middelburg bookseller Willem Goeree. At a young age, he moved to Amsterdam with his father. Among other things, he made engravings of various buildings in Amsterdam. In 1705 he was commissioned by the city council to make sketches for the paintings of the vault of the main hall of the town hall. Under his supervision, these were then carried out by J. Braun gesprenkelter Kalbsleder-Einband auf vier echten Bünden mit goldgeprägtem Rückentitel und goldgeprägtem Buchrücken. Einbanddeckel nur wenig berieben, Beide Kapitale beschädigt, von alter Hand fachgerecht mit Leder hinterlegt. Vorsätze ( etwas leimspurig ) mit handschriftlichen Eintragungen von alter Hand. Bindung kompakt und ordentlich, Textseiten absolut sauber. Der Benediktinermönch Casimir Freschot (1640.1731) lebte lange in Italien und schrieb über Geschichte, Genealogie und Calvinismus. Um 1700 kehrte er in den Laienstand zurück und zog in die Niederlande, nach Utrecht, wo er Zeitzeuge des den Spanischen Erbfolgekrieg beendenden Friedens von Utrecht ( 1713 ) war.

This building stood on the site of today's Mint Tower, was built in 1480 to 1487 and served until 1586 as a city gate.
