In den WarenkorbCopper engraving, image size 153x213mm on paper 192x236mm. Slightly spotted. A dramatic and decidedly picturesque view. Arthur Young, on an 18th century fact-finding tour, became almost overwrought in his attempt to describe the falls: 'You look up to two dreadful pointed rocks, of a vast height, which almost hang over your head, partly scattered with shrubby wood, in the wildest taste of nature. Between them is a dreadful precipice of broken craggy rock, over which a raging torrent foams down in one vast sheet of water, several yards wide. Nothing can be fancied more grand, more beautiful, or romantic. ' Thomas West called this force the 'Niagara of the Lake' and his friend and editor, William Cockin, added a footnote to a later edition of West's Guide 'I do not know that the height of this cataract has ever been estimated, but when viewing it, the reader may like to have it recalled to his mind . the fall of Niagara does not exceed 140 feet.' Cockin is not too far out, the drop at Niagara is 162 feet, only some twelve feet more than Lodore. There, however, the similarity ends. Manuskript / Papierantiquität
Original British program for the 1942 film. A fascinating piece, in that it consists almost entirely of a long transcription by Pressburger of the true-life narrative by Sir George Corbett, which forms the basis for the film. Photo illustrations from the film throughout. Saddle-stapled illustrated self wrappers, 7 x 9 inches, 32 pages. Very Good, with some creasing to the wrappers but no loss or detachment.
