Wear to extremities with the corners rubbed through, top and bottom of spine starting to fray, covers lightly soiled, gilt somewhat dulled, rear hinge cracked, previous owner's name and date (Rose F. Thawly, Christmas, 1910), else good to very good with only a couple of underlinings. No dust jacket. Laid in is a piece of stationery 5 x 4" written in the same hand and ink as the signature of the previous owner which reads as follows: "The pronouns being used out | of their right places in Sauls | writiings as in the rest of | the King James translation | seems to make it plain that | the translators did it all." William Baxter Godbey [1833-1920] was a leading figure of the holiness movement within the Methodist Episcopal Church, South and inter-denominationally. He authored more than 200 publications and was known far and wide as an able interpreter of the New Testament based on his understanding of the original Greek text.
