In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Very Good Indeed. None (illustrator). First edition. This very scarce, first Cambridge English Classics edition set titled The Works of Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher, complete in ten volumes. The first Cambridge English Classics edition of this complete ten volume set: The Works of Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher.Volumes I and V with a contemporary publisher's advertisement for the book inserted loosely at the front of the work.Very scarcely found as a complete set.Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher were two popular English dramatists of the Renaissance period who made particularly rich contributions to early modern comic and tragicomic theatre. They both held a reputation for working collaboratively, and co-authored several plays with one another, including The Woman Hater (1606; 1607), and Cupid's Revenge (1607-12; 1615), and The Maid's Tragedy (c. 1609; 1619). The Works of Francis Beaumont and John Fletchercollects together the expansive canon of these two playwrights into ten, handsome volumes, offering a reader a sense of how their styles developed throughout their careers. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally, generally smart with some minor marks to the boards and some damp staining. Spines of Volume I, Volume II, and Volume III are a trifle faded. A touch of bumping to the heads and tails of the spines and extremities; one fractional split to the cloth at the tail of Volume V's spine. Volumes I, II and III with the mark of Gilbert & Field Bookseller to front pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound with on the whole exceptionally bright and clean pages for the set's age; All text blocks are lightly age toned and have scattered spotting, which is slightly heavier in Volume VII, in addition to the odd, minor closed tear, not impacting text. Some leaves remain uncut. Very Good Indeed. book.
