This work in particular focuses on Dr. William Smellie (1697-1763) a Scottish obstetrician and one of the most prominent male midwives during this time. He also invented an improved version of the obstetrical forceps, allowing obstructed births to be handled more safely and quickly.Written by Scottish forensic scientist and general practitioner, John Glaister, during the late nineteenth century.This work contains thirty-one illustrations.This copy was previously housed at the Birmingham Medical Institute Library, and it has been rebound in library cloth. The bookplates of the Birmingham Medical Institue Library can be found on the front pastedown and free-endpaper. A previous owner's ink inscription can be found on the front free-endpaper. Library stamps can be found throughout, as is common with library books (see condition report for more information). In full cloth binding from Birmingham Medical Institute Library with their stamp to the tail of the spine. Externally, some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Some rubbing to the joints and fading to the spine. Cloth has split slightly to the front joint. Birmingham Medical Institute Library bookplates to the front pastedown and free-endpaper. Previous owner's ink signature to the front free-endpaper. Internally, front hinge starting but firm. Rear hinge strained but firm. Library stamps to the frontispiece page and title page, otherwise pages bright and clean. Good. book.
