Zustand: Hervorragend | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | A Visitor's Guide to the Plants of Muir Woods National Monument provides an introduction to the trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and ferns found in this preserved redwood grove located just north of San Francisco. Arranged first by trees and shrubs, then flower color for wildflowers, and followed by ferns, the book will allow visitors to the Monument to identify the area's most representative plants. Written in a non-technical style, a total of 77 plants are described and illustrated with color photographs, including the Monument's 13 species of ferns, a conspicuous feature of the preserve's undergrowth. A checklist of all vascular plant species, prepared by the National Park Service, is also included, as is a complete index to the scientific and common names used in the book.

Zustand: Very Good+. Beautiful sepia portrait (7" x 9") of Ms. Pickford INSCRIBED THUS: "Very Sincerely / Mary Pickford / 1929." Born on April 8, 1893, Gladys Smith, billed as "Baby Gladys" she toured with various road shows. At age 14, she charmed David Belasco into giving her a major role in his play "The Warrens of Virginia." It was he who renamed her Mary Pickford. In 1909 at age 16, she convinced D. W. Griffith at Biograph to give her a break; he did and thus began a remarkable career that made her the most popular film star in screen history. She started at $40 per week; by 1916, Adolph Zukor was paying her $10,000 per week and a $300,000 bonus. She received a special Academy Award in 1975, recognizing her contribution to the American film. She died in 1979.
