Giraldi was a prolific author, disciple of Sannazaro, Pontano, and Chalchondylas, who was his teacher of Greek. After a brilliant career in Rome, Giraldi suffered the consequences of the Sack of 1527, and spent the rest of his life blighted by illness, poverty, and neglect; Montaigne alluded to his sorrowful last years with regret in one of his Essais (i.35). The marginalia reveal an intensive study of antiquity by a late sixteenth-century reader, and include use of verse for mnemonic purposes; another early reader added, in the lower margin of p.256, an integration of the short portion of text missing as a result of unbound leaves, all blank except for the end of the text which the annotator supplies thus revealing access to other copies of this work or to a network able to provide him with the missing lines. This copy later belonged to the jurist Zacharias (or Zaccaria) De Amicis, from Aquila. Born in 1722, after studying law and humanistic studies he entered the service of Charles III, first as Governor and later as Auditor. He was the author of a Repertorio legale and many other works never published. Prima edizione. La presente è l'ultima opera composta e pubblicata dal celebre umanista Giraldi (1479-1552). Dedicata al cardinale Giovanni Salviati si tratta di una sorta di miscellanea di erudizione classica che, sotto forma di trenta brevi dialoghi, tratta di vari e diversi argomenti, tra cui questioni filologiche e critiche relative ad autori greci e latini. Particolare rilievo assume il primo dialogo, De studendi et annotandi ratione, una sorta di presentazione  del suo metodo critico e filologico. I Dialogismi furono pubblicati probabilmente poco dopo la morte dell'a., avvenuta nel 1552, per cura del suo allievo Lorenzo Frizzoli, che aggiunse ai dialoghi del maestro il suo dialogo sulla vita e le opere del Giraldi. I Dialogismi non compaiono all'interno della raccolta dell'Opera omnia del G. pubblicata a Basilea nel 1580 e per questo risultano rari e ricercati. Ottimo esemplare (obliterate ad inchiostro le prime due parole del titolo), qualche carta leggermente brunita.  Adams G-729. BMC 306. . Book.

Il s'agirait de la toute première représentation collective des muses se baignant dans la fontaine de jouvence. Neufs magnifiques bois in-texte (63 x 50mm) mettent eux aussi en scène ces mêmes muses élégamment vêtues et tenant leurs symboles distinctifs. 30 lignes par page en caractères ronds, exemplaire à toutes marges, non rubriqué. Le feuillet A2 ne porte pas de signature, C2 fautivement noté B2. Première publication de l'imprimeur strasbourgeois Matthias Schürer à contenir des caractères grecs, comme ce dernier le souligne dans le colophon: «Finis libelli de Musis compositi a Lilio Graegorio Ziraldo Ferrariensi, quem Matthias Schurerius artium doctor summa cum diligentia impressit, non omissis accentibus in eisque Gareca sunt. Idibus August.» Reliure postérieure (XXème) en plein maroquin brun, dos janséniste à cinq nerfs, date dorée en queue, filet doré en encadrement des plats, toutes tranches dorées. Reliure signée Honegger. Ex-libris des bibliothèques Guelfo Sitta et Gianni de Marco encollés sur le premier contreplat, timbre à sec de ce dernier en bas à droite de la première garde blanche. Quelques très discrets trous de vers sans perte de texte au niveau des derniers feuillets. Collationné complet par un bibliographe de la librairie Bernard Quaritch Ltd le 8 mai 1925 (cf. note au verso du dernier feuillet). Rare et important traité - le tout premier sur le sujet - marquant une avancée significative dans la connaissance humaniste et philologique des divinités antiques. Il est précédé de quelques lignes adressées au lecteur ainsi que d'une dédicace intitulée «Andreae Reginio Romarici monti Sonrario » par Philesius Vogesigena (Matthias Ringmann), humaniste et éditeur scientifique de l'ouvrage. Vient ensuite une épitre dédicatoire à Luca Ripa, l'un des anciens maîtres ferrarais de Lilio Gregorio Giraldi, datée de 1507 à Milan. L'auteur y affirme avoir composé son Syntama de Musis alors qu'il n'était encore qu'un adolescent. La dissertation se clôt par plusieurs vers de poètes antiques ou contemporains à Giraldi - Virgile, Pic de la Mirandole et Fauste Andrelin - ayant avant lui loué les grâces des muses. Emblématique du néoplatonisme médicéen, ce traité à clé aura une influence notable sur les cycles picturaux et les mythographes du XVIème siècle. Les superbes bois gravés illustrant l'ouvrage ne se conforment pas à la tradition antique ou italienne mais représentent plutôt des vierges germaniques. Ces bois, proches du style de ceux de Dürer, sont très clairement inspirés par l'artiste à défaut de pouvoir lui être formellement attribués.
