Note the Mexico map's reference to "Texas AND Part of the United States", as Texas in 1846 was a separate country. Albert Gilliam's map shows his journey from San Francisco, along the Colorado River, all the way to southern California in 1843 and 1844. His proposal of a railroad in a direct line from the town of Napolean, Ohio (and another from New Orleans) to San Fransisco is a bit of a fantasy as the mountain ranges were not taken into account, but it was a bold statement upholding the "Manifest Destiny" energy of the age.…
