Binding stamped "U.S. Government Bindery" on each board's edge. Illustrated with a fold-out map of the Lena Delta and with four heliotype plates. T…his report was delivered to the 48th United States Congress in its first session. National Park Service, "Giles B. Harber: Navy Cadet, Admiral, Friend of James & Lucretia Garfield". Harber was a respected U.S. Naval Officer, achieving the rank of Rear-Admiral. His rescue of the bodies of the Jeannette crew is regarded as one of his greatest achievements, a demonstration of his courage and determination. Harber's rescue mission took place three years after the Jeannette's crew died of starvation. The plates in this volume are macabre, depicting the coffins of the deceased. These images are fitting representations of the bleak nature of Harber's work. A discoloration on the front board and a dampspot on two of the four tissue guards.
