This issue marks the first time O'Keeffe's work appeared in reproduction, according to the "notes on contributors" portion at the front of the volume. This publication followed two exhibitions at the famous 291 gallery in New York, one in 1916 and the other in 1917, owned by her future husband Alfred Stieglitz.
