Black and white fold-out frontispiece. A fold-out colour map at rear. Library copy, with expected inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Pages with some foxing and tanning, particularly to endpapers and textblock edges. Some cracking to gutters with exposed netting. Binding loose. Boards have heavy shelf wear with bumping and fraying to corners and crushing, fraying and tearing to spine ends and edges. Gilt lettering to spine is dulled but remains brighter on front.

First edition hard back binding in publisher's original Brunswick green cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered gilt back, London gilt coat of arms to the front cover, top edge gilt. 8vo. 9'' x 6¼''. Contains tissue-guarded triptych fold-out frontispiece, (xxi), 696 pp with many monochrome illustrations and archive photographs on loaded paper and text illustrations throughout, large folding colour map to the rear.
