Held in the original dustwrapper this work have been profusely illustrated with engravings by the author. This copy is a third impression. Robert Gibbings was a author and artist who was best remembered for his sculptures and engravings. in his literary career Gibbings wrote numerous natural history and travel works, many of which centred around the country of Ireland. Part personal anecdote, part historical account this work offers an charming insight into the authors home country. Beautifully punctuated with the authors own artwork, this work is a full of charm. With the previous owners ink inscription to the front endpaper. Edmund Segrave commented on this volume stating 'There cannot have been many journeys that have been so lovingly, so engagingly described', and indeed from both the prose and illustrations this volume demonstrated the author passion and love for nature and the country of Ireland. In a full cloth binding and held in the original price clipped duswrapper. Externally vert smart, with some very minor shelfwear. Light offsetting to the front and rear endpapers, with an ink inscription to the front endpaper. The dustwrapper is chipped to the head and tail of the spine, and also to the extremities. Sunning to the spine and rubbing to the joints. Large closed tear to the front of the wrap, no more than 8cm. Small tear to the tai lof the front of the wrap, no more than 3cm and a another small tear to the tail of the rear of the wrap, no more than 1cm. Internally firmly bound. PAges are bright and clean. Near Fine. book.
