Text in English, French, German, and Spanish. Head darkened. Text block is slightly age browned, with occasional brown marks. The fold-out map (3 cells) is torn in both creases. No additional marks. Binding is strong and square. The wrap is worn and rubbed with small chips missing from the head and tail of the spine, and a small tear in the front hinge. Wrapped in protective mylar.

Robert Gerstmann, 1896 - 1960, was born in Vienna and trained as an electrical engineer. In 1924 he emigrated to Chile, where he abondoned engineering in favor of photography, a passion he acquired in his youth. He traveled thoughout Chile and Bolivia and amassed several thousand glass plate negatives, many of which were produced in his books on Chile and Bolivia. Splendid photogravures of the Chilean people and landscape. In Spanish, German, French and English.
