In den WarenkorbVG orig. maroon cloth in scuffed purple dj. lxviii, 378 p.; 20.5 cm. (Moffatt New Testament commentary, based on the new translation by James Moffatt) [First pr. 1928] Contents of Introduction: I. The Fourth Gospel and the synoptics. 1. The evangelist's knowledge of the synoptics, 2. The Fourth Gospel compared with the synoptics… -- II. History or didactic drama? How far is John a biographer? -- III. Aims and influences -- IV. The doctrine of the logos -- V. Literary structure -- VI. The `Beloved Disciple' and the authorship of the Gospel -- VII. The relation of the appendix [ch. 21] to the question of authorship -- VIII. John, the elder of Ephesus, and the external evidence -- IX. The date of the Gospel -- X. Conclusion. -- `We conclude then that three persons have played their part in reducing our Gospel to its present form, of whom the second is the author in the true sense of the word, who has stamped upon the book the marks of his genius and welded it into an organic whole. (1) Behind the Gospel stands the figure of the Witness, the `Disciple whom Jesus loved,' a young Jerusalemite disciple, outside the number of the Twelve, but admitted ot the inner circle during the closing days. (2) The Evangelist himself, afterwards John the Elder of Ephesus, we conceive to have been a younger contemporary and disciple of the Witness. (3) Before it reached its final form the Gospel was revised by a later Redactor. The occasion of this revision may have been the death of John of Ephesus. Whoever wrote it, the Fourth Gospel will always be the Holy of Holies of Christian literature. Whoever Witness, Evangelist, Redactor may have been, to all three the world owes its gratitude for the book which is, as Luther puts it, the `chiefest of the Gospels, unique, tender, and true.'. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Eucharistic Origins. A Survey of the New Testament Evidence' is a scholarly examination of the development and meaning of the Lord's Supper within the context of early Christian scripture. Based on the 1928 Bruce Lectures, George Hogarth Carnaby Macgregor provides a meticulous analysis of th…e New Testament evidence regarding the institution and significance of the Eucharist. The work explores the linguistic, historical, and theological foundations of the sacrament, tracing its evolution from the Last Supper through the practices of the primitive Church.Macgregor engages with contemporary biblical criticism to offer insights into the relationship between Jesus' intentions and the subsequent liturgical expressions found in the Pauline epistles and the Gospels. This volume serves as an essential resource for students of biblical theology, church history, and sacramental practice, offering a rigorous survey of the scriptural testimonies that underpin one of Christianity's most central rites. By focusing on the primitive evidence, 'Eucharistic Origins' seeks to clarify the transition from Jewish ritual to Christian sacrament, making it a valuable study for understanding the liturgical life of the earliest Christian communities. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Gospel of John' offers a profound and scholarly exploration of the Fourth Gospel, providing readers with an in-depth analysis of its unique theological and narrative structure. Written by theologian G. H. C. Macgregor, this commentary serves as an essential resource for understanding the… spiritual depth and historical context of one of the New Testament's most significant texts. The work meticulously examines the distinctive features of the Johannine tradition, including the symbolic language of the signs, the extensive discourses of Jesus, and the high christology that defines the prologue and subsequent chapters.Focusing on the central themes of light, truth, and eternal life, Macgregor guides the reader through the intricate layers of the Greek text, offering clarity on complex passages while addressing critical questions of composition and authorship. The commentary balances academic rigor with a clear, accessible prose style, making it suitable for clergy, scholars, and students of biblical studies alike. By situating the narrative within its contemporary religious and philosophical environment, 'The Gospel of John' illuminates the foundational beliefs of the early church and remains a significant contribution to the field of New Testament exegesis and Christian thought. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
