Pages clean and bright. Some entries accentuated by black and white photographs and there are several full colour plates throughout. Fold out map of Israel affixed to the inside rear cover, as published. Binding a bit loose, but still solid. Very good to near fine copy.

Sie basiert auf der in Berlin erarbeiteten und von Jakob Klatzkin, Ismar Elbogen und Nahum Goldmann begründeten und herausgegebenen Encyclopaedia Judaica (1928-1934 Eschkol Verlag). Das Erscheinen dieses Werkes konnte nach zehn von fünfzehn deutschsprachigen (A bis Lyra) und zwei hebräischen Bänden der ebenfalls im Entstehen begriffenen hebräischen Parallelausgabe nach der Machtergreifung der Nationalsozialisten nicht fortgeführt werden. Die vorliegende Ausgabe zeichnet sich besonders dadurch aus, dass sie über 2.000 Abbildungen aufweist, die in der im Jahr 2006 erschienenen zweiten Auflage nicht mehr enthalten sind.
