Zustand: GOOD. Trade paperback. Although the Dayaks of Borneo have a gruesome reputation, known only for their skulls and their headhouses, and quoted as examples of the most primitive savagery, the author spent two years among them after the end of the World War II and found them attractive, affectionate and practical. This introduction to their way of life, includes the legend of Kichapi as recounted by the village shaman during nine evenings. Illustrated with photographs. Index. xxxi, 144 pp. Good only (some wear to the covers).

Condition. Very Good. Free of marks and inscriptions. Illustrated with frontis art portrait of Dr Skinner, 21 b/w photo plates, most with multiple images, also numerous full pages with drawings of artifacts, weapons, implements and decorative pattens etc, maps, diagrams and graphs plus two fold out tables. This collection of 12 anthropological essays was published in 1959 as a mark of respect, admiration and appreciation by prominent archeologists and academics from NZ and Australia following the retirement of Professor HD Skinner, for many years pre-eminant in that field in NZ. Dr Skinner was Director of Otago Museum and a number of his fellow academics and former anthropology students decided a series of essays on South Pacific topics would provide an appropriate tribute to the man and his contribution to the discipline.
