Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu.

First edition of this work on French Gastronomy, containing its history throughout the country's various regions. Octavo, bound in full calf with gilt titles and tooling to the spine, red morocco spine labels, marbled endpapers, ribbon bound in. In very good condition. Rare. Gastronomy has historically been a primary factor in defining French regional and national identity, and at the turn of the 20th century, accounts of regional recipes, products, manners and customs penned by local dignitaries became a competitive practice. Cours Gastronomique is presented in the form of a play in which a French professor illuminates a young chef on the customs and practices of gastronomy throughout France.

(in Vicaire). (in Oberlé). (in Avertissement).

?As a scientist Cadet is noteworthy for his part in the diffusion and popularization of the New Chemistry rather than for any specific discovery. His most important work, the four-volume Dictionnaire de Chimie, published in 1803 and dedicated to Fourcroy, replaced the old chemical dictionary of Macquer. Cadet's Dictionnaire clearly elucidated the revolutionary changes that had occurred in chemistry and in chemical nomenclature? (DSB, III, p. 6).?Cadet's Dictionnaire follows the form of Macquer's and brings it up to date. It is an entirely new work designed to be useful to chemists in need of a compact dictionary. The table of authors in T. IV gives references to their work and where it is quoted in the dictionary? Cole, 227; Neville, I, p. 233; Partington, III, p. 96. Book.
