In den WarenkorbFirst edition, presentation copy, inscribed by both authors on the front free endpaper, "To Dave Patten - America's most forbearing and indulgent managing editor. Jim Hart", and "and who probably would have liked to ram down such a story himself. Garrett Byrnes. Feb 4, 1930". The recipient was the managing editor of the Providence Journal, where both authors were employed. Scoop is a novel which, against the background of prohibition and crime, follows a hard-drinking Providence reporter who is sent to prison for drunk driving, and while there uncovers evidence the wealthy were buying themselves pardons. Patten (1888-1975) served as editor of the Providence Journal from 1925 onwards. Byrnes retired from the journal in 1974, and in 1980, co-authored its official history. Octavo. Original green cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt. Spine sunned, light wear at extremities. A good copy.
