Though not marked in any way, this came directly from the library of H. Lawrence Hoffman who illustrated the front cover. His son, David Hoffman, the noted documentary filmmaker, has signed a statement with information about his father, the artist, and attesting that the book was from his library. A copy of this is included. A very pretty collectable copy of the first Bertha Cool & Donald Lam mystery and the first title published using this pseudonym. An uncommon printing as are all of the early printings.

Small nicks/bumping across the dust jackets, faint marks across back covers, but otherwise in excellent condition with no major blemishes, tears etc, cover artwork popping with colour. Both copies protected by plastic slipcovers. Some fading to black cloth bindings due to age, but otherwise mint with gilt lettering clean and legible. Clean text blocks with crisp page edges. Pages throughout both copies are tightly bound, clean and tidy throughout, never thumbed or opened.
