Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. [55 p.]. 36 cm. Brown leather with gold cloth. Gilt trim. Illustrated from drawings and photos by Wright. Booklet of 14 p. sewn to front endpaper with illustrations from Wright's photos of dried weeds. Includes letter from Prairie School Press describing their work. In the winter of 1896-7 Frank Lloyd Wright and William Herman Winslow joined together to publish a limited edition of William C. Gannet's The House Beautiful. Wright had heard the essay in a sermon and was inspired and charmed by the text about the importance of simplicity and craftsmanship in the home. In their publication, Gannet's text was framed with Wright's intricate tapestry-like decorations, inspired by ironwork and Middle Eastern tapestries. This facsimile was published by W. R. and Marilyn Hasbrouck of Prairie School Press. Facsimile of the 1896-7 Auvergne Press edition of which only 90 copies were printed - this is copy "one".

In den WarenkorbQuarter Calf. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Printed on hand-made paper with deckle edges. Double-page title in red and black, text printed within engraved frames, some full-page engraved illustrations, some ornaments printed in red, 12 photogravures of plants printed on Japan paper, bound as a booklet into green card wrappers with gold printing, and pasted on the front free endpaper as issued. (Some spotting to yapp edges, Japan paper spotted.) Original quarter calf and green paper covers, gilt frames on calf sides, the upper side also titled in gilt (dampstained, extremities rubbed, some soiling, some abrasion on upper cover). FIRST EDITION, DESIGNED AND PRINTED BY FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT. One of only 90 copies, this one number 78, signed by Wright and Winslow. The design of The House Beautiful established the form followed by most of Wright's subsequent books, and prefigures some of his famous stained-glass window designs. Auvergne Place, the house where this work was printed, was designed by Wright for Winslow and built in 1893; it had been Wright's first independent commission after leaving Adler and Sullivan. The photogravures reproduce dried weeds and plants which inspired Wright's illustrations.
