In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. An interesting collection of vintage books on the development of television, the first of which dates to just 1933, the year after the first UK television broadcasts, and only 7 years after the first transmitted moving image was demonstrated. The set comprises: Television for the Amateur Constructor, by H.J. Barton Chapple, foreword by John Logie Baird, published by Sir Isaac Pitman & Sons, Ltd., London, 1933 1st edition (scarce); Book of Practical Television, edited by G.V. Dowling, published by The Amalgamated Press Limited, London, undated, but 1935 1st edition; The Principles of Television Reception, by A.W. Keen, published by Sir Isaac Pitman & Sons, Ltd., London, 1949, 1st edition; Television To-Day; A Constructive Guide to Its Principles and Practice, by Roy C. Norris, published by Rockcliff, London, 1947 1st edition; Practical Television Circuits with Additional Chapters on Test Apparatus and Auxiliary Equipment, by F.J. Camm, published by George Newnes Limited, London, 1954 1st edition; and; The Young Man's Guide to Television, by W.J. Baker, published by Hamish Hamilton, London, 1960, 1st edition. 6 books in total. A set of cloth bound hardback books in good condition, overall. With various minor faults, including; Chapple volume with cracked front endpapers at inner hinge and worn to webbing on first pastedown, & sunning to front cover. Baker volume with spotting to edge of text block, & price-clipped dustjacket. Norris volume sunned to spine, & soiling to cover. But, overall a very readable slice of television history, including some uncommon volumes. Text in English. Weight approximately 3.14kg (the set - unpacked). Extra postage may be payable for overseas orders. Many more photos available on request.
Washington, DC, A. O. P. Nicholson, 1854. 8vo (22.1 x 14.5 cm). xv, 286 pp., 63 nice lithographed plates (several tinted) of plants, animals (ten on snakes and amphibians), mammals, insects landscape views and one folded hand-coloured geological profile. Original blind-stamped brown cloth. Gilt title on the spine. = Rare early exploration on natural history and geology of this part of the southern US, including the early (may be first?) geological profile. This is the later House of Representatives edition. It includes nice views of the Gypsum Bluffs on Red River, Granite Boulders and the Ke-Che-Ah-Que-Ho-No of the Red River and 19 fine plates of plants (numbered I-XVII, XIX-XX; XVIII not published). Also included are the appendices on meteorology, geology (plate II not issued), palaeontology, fishes, shells, arachnides and botany by John Torrey. By far the most important section is Appendix F, Reptiles, by S. F. Baird and C. Girard. It contains the descriptions and illustrations of many new snakes, as well as other reptiles and amphibians. Girard also wrote the parts on Orthoptera, Myriapods, and arachnids, all with new species (illustrated). This should come with a separate portfolio with two maps, but it is absent as in most copies. Appendix H is a trilingual dictionnary English - Comanche - Witchita. Some foxing in the text and on some plates but mostly in the margins - the herpetological plates nearly clean. Sabin, 44512.
