Sprache: Deutsch Broschur 8;; 313 Seiten; Tabellen; Bibliotheksstempel auf Rückseite Haupttitel, etikettiert; - Asian cinematography to us this encompasses the occasional masterpiece from Japan and perhaps some knowledge we may have of India with its annual mass production of 600 films produced n nineteen languages, a weekly nationwide audience of more han 66 million, and a marketing structure supplying 7,800 movie theatres. But what do we know of cinematography in small countries in Southeast Asia, of their difficulties in reconciling challenging western models and their own aspirations? What do we know about the real conditions under which production and marketing takes place in Asian countries? What do we know about the dependence of filmmakers in these countries, about technology, market conditions, film imports, and influence by state, religious and ethnic elements? Influences with far-reaching impact on cinematography have recently made themselves felt in these countries, particularly in the seventies. Their effects on the creation, expression and presentation of a specific cultural language pertaining to the historical and current environment of these countries create an ideal point of departure for a discussion of cinematography in this identity-oriented process. Questions of aesthetics and cultural policy, emancipatory processes and systems of dependency on mainly western film models are discussed there on a broader basis than here in Europe. These problems, which because of their cultural and political dimensions we consider to be an important aspect in North-South and South-South sociocultural relations, were dealt with at the Symposium on The Current Economic and Cultural Situation of Cinematography in Southeast Asia, to which the Development Policy Forum of the German Foundation for International Development (DSE) had extended invitations on the occasion of the 31st Berlin International Film Festival. - - -.
