Screen print from photograph taken by Jack Bennett of the sculptural work 'Shadow Box' by Ken Cox, 'the first motorised word sculpture that Ken Cox made, in 1965, and was shown at the 2nd International Exhibition of Experimental Poetry, at St Catherine's College, Oxford'. Printed silver on cream stock. 300x300mm, unsigned. Offprint from the Ken Cox portfolio, a memorial publication by John Furnival, designed to 'act as a record of the work that [Cox] executed in the last years of his life, and as a memorial to him'. Ken Cox died on November 8 1968 as a result of injuries recieved in a road accident. The portfolio was published in an edition of 45, each containing 8 numbered screenprints and a colophon card with a short biography of Ken Cox. There are thought to be less than 15 offprints of each card that were mostly given to the family of Ken Cox as gifts by Furnival. Therefore total estimate of the edition size is 60 copies. The print was designed and executed by Tim Noel-Johnson. Furnival in later years has mentioned what an exceptionally talented group of printmaking students he had during this period at the Bath Academy of Art.…
