In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. First Edition. The University Press, Cambridge, U.S.A. 1908. Hardback, 8vo. blue cloth white lettering, 323pp. frontispiece and 3 b/w plates, covers and especially the spine browned due to sunning, hinges fragile, corners bumped, contents clean and tight. A comprehensive work on dishes with the inclusion of breads, pastry and sweet dishes together with a long introduction, general advice on the kitchen and dining room and a selection of menus. She does, in one instance at least, use rhubarb leaves and flowers which are poisonous something I find somewhat concerning. The author was a member of the Boston elite using her social position to promote her activism on behalf of animal welfare, which she saw as the most effective path to urgent social reform founding the Millennium Guild in 1912 the first animal rights organisation in the United States. She was also a member of the Christian Science church from which she resigned because it supported the entry of the United States into WW1. This is the rare first edition of 1908. Further editions were published in 1910 and 1912 by Little, Brown, & Co. After her the death of her husband she later married Curtis Freshel in 1917 thereafter further editions were published under the name of M.R.L. Freshel.
