Neuware - Dionysius Andreas Freher (1649-1728) was one of the most important of those who worked and followed in the stream of mystical hermeticism initiated by Jacob Boehme. Regrettably, Freher's contribution to mysticism is now almost completely unknown and unrecognised.This work is well known through the three astounding complex engravings with opening sections which appeared in the William Law edition of the works of Boehme. As you lift up sections of the engraving more interior spaces are revealed. For this book, I have photographically disassembled the tables into a series of openings by manipulation of the images thus showing progessively the journey into the interior of each of the tables.The three Tables illustrate, in essence, the process of the spiritual evolution of mankind. The first Table presents us with the process of the involution of the human soul into matter, its descent from the heights of the cosmic periphery into the deepest point of dense materiality where the human soul can still touch on the divine spirit.The second Table shows in a pictorial way the present state of the human soul, struggling while immersed in the material world to keep a vision of the spirit, suspended between the worlds of spirit and matter, the inner and the outer.The third Table attempts to illustrate the process of regeneration, or spiritual evolution, through which the human soul can become respiritualised.Although this process is taken directly from Jacob Boehme, this doctrine of spiritual evolution is found in many mystery religions, and indeed resonates with our present day conception of humankind's relationship to the spiritual.The picture of spiritual evolution presented in the Three Tables, lets us envisage our life's journey as a grand alchemical experiment, in which we inwardly struggle with the powerful forces of the spirit and material to purify and perfect the inmost essence of our being. The texts contained in this book were originally published in 1856, in an edition of 500, given away to friends, and sent to university libraries by their editor, Christopher Walton. They were never sold publicly. Walton was an English Behmenist and devotee of William Law, and these texts were assembled as part of a research project, 'Notes and Materials Towards an Adequate Biography of William Law', that was never completed. Unfortunately, Walton presented the texts haphazardly, without a table of contents, in microscopic type, with footnotes up to one hundred pages in length, that in turn contained other texts. Besides Walton's book, only fragments of Freher's writings have been published. A great quantity of writings exist in manuscript form. Freher was referred to as 'Second to Boehme' in his capacity as a commentator on Boehme's philosophy, making the inaccessibility of his works an unfortunate loss.Francis Lee was the co-founder of the Philadelphian Society, an English Behmenist group. Although many of his writings were published posthumously, his Behmenist works were excluded. This edition aims to put these writings into a more accessible, and readable format.

Erste Ausgabe dieser bedeutenden Sammlung der böhmischen Geschichtsschreiber, besorgt von dem 1565 in Augsburg geborenen, 1614 in Heidelberg verstorbenen Juristen, Historiker und Diplomaten Marquard Freher. Als zweiter Teil beigegeben sind die Kommentare des Olmützer Bischofs Johannes Dubravius (1486-1553), hier erstmals mit dessen "Oratio ad Turcam debellandum exhortatoria" an den polnischen König Sigismund. - Etwas gebräunt und fleckig, sonst wohlerhaltenes Exemplar aus dem Besitz des böhmischen Gelehrten Johann Chorinus (1561-1606), "Magister der Philosophie, Professor an der Karolinischen Universität, und einer der vorzüglichsten lateinischen Dichter Böhmens" (G. J. Dlabacz, Johann Chorinus [Prag 1821], S. 3). Das zweite Vorsatzblatt trägt verso ein zwölfzeiliges Widmungsgedicht von seiner Hand an seinen Kollegen Johannes Tetaurius (Svinczanus), datiert März 1606, nur kurz vor Chorinus' Tod im Mai. Am Titel finden sich der Kaufvermerk Chorinus' sowie vier wenig spätere Besitzvermerke. Auf den Vorsätzen und in den Texträndern weitere, teils ausführliche Notizen bzw. Marginalien, überwiegend von einer einzigen Hand (möglicherweise die des Tetaurius).
