Earth First! is a group of radical environmentalists that formed in the American Southwest in the spring of 1980, founded by Dave Foreman, Mike Roselle, Howie Wolke, Bart Koehler, and Ron Kezar, among others. Earth First! quickly came to national attention with their "cracking" of Glen Canyon Dam activist stunt, which was performed and filmed in the spring of 1981. Edward Abbey is considered to be the "literary father" of the group. "Earth First! is the beginning of the new, bold environmental movement. And 'Earth First! The Radical Environmental Journal' is its voice. No compromise in the defense of Mother Earth!" (Dave Foreman, Editor). Rear cover half-page illustration is untitled by Brush Wolf and depicts a rattlesnake with a monkey wrench in place of the rattler at the end of the table. Deze religieuzen hadden zich nochtans, net als andere congregaties, in de loop van de voorbije eeuwen op een gedreven, overtuigende wijze ingezet om o.a. degelijk onderwijs te verstrekken. Een aantal onder hen vestigden zich, met een ?startkapitaal van 1.000 BEF?, in Boechout en stichtten er, gelovend in hun ?project?, de school die wij nu als het Sint-Gabriëlcollege kennen. Honderd jaar later mag deze fris ogende eeuweling er nog best zijn. Ze is nu uitgegroeid tot een bloeiend college waar maar liefst 1.600 leerlingen en een 160-tal personeelsleden elkaar vinden en gemeenschap vormen. In dit boek schetst Fred Jacobs, pedagogisch directeur, op een aangenaam anekdotische wijze de geschiedenis van het Sint-Gabriëlcollege. Het geheel wordt gekruid door een aantal treffende getuigenissen van oud-leerlingen, oud-leerkrachten en oud-directieleden.
