Histoire. -- Marie-Georges Picquart (Strasbourg, 6 septembre 1854 - Amiens, 19 janvier 1914) est un général et homme politique français. Il est le personnage central du dénouement de l'affaire Dreyfus. Convaincu de l'innocence du capitaine Alfred Dreyfus, il joue un rôle important dans l'Affaire Dreyfus en relevant des indices accusant le commandant Ferdinand Walsin Esterhazy. Il découvre notamment un morceau de papier déchiré, connu sous le nom de "petit bleu", adressé par l'attaché militaire allemand à Esterhazy. Lorsqu'il consulte les écrits d'Esterhazy, il constate que c'est la même écriture que celle du bordereau, principal élément à charge contre Dreyfus. Il en informe sa hiérarchie, ce qui le conduit à être affecté à un nouveau poste en Tunisie avec consigne de ne pas révéler ces informations. Cependant, la publication du bordereau dans la presse permet à une autre personne de l'entourage d'Esterhazy de reconnaître l'écriture de ce dernier. Informé de ces nouvelles révélations, Georges Picquart décide alors de communiquer à l'homme politique Auguste Scheurer-Kestner les preuves dont il dispose. Il est alors chassé de l'armée en 1898 et emprisonné pendant près d'un an. Picquart est réhabilité le même jour que Dreyfus et nommé général de brigade en 1906 (wikipédia). 12,5x18,5 cm. 385 p.
