Shabby and bit dog-eared, it is a copy that is preserved entirely in the original state, untrimmed and in… a very good and clean internal condition. ~ FIRST EDITION. Rare FIRST EDITION of this treatise which went directly through several reprints. The second edition appeared in 1826, and the third edition in 1829. The book comprises of two individual treatises which are brought as one whole and the identity of the German author whose work served as the basis for the present French adaptation remains nowadays for most bibliographers a mystery. It was, however, Johann Dragollowics, a German infantry officer to whom also the work "Unterricht des Soldaten der Infanterie im Felddienst" is attributed. He is responsible for the main treatise, comprising of the first 24 chapters of the book, whereas Forestier contributed the second treatise which encompass the last three chapters, and the essay "De manoeuvres" which concludes the book.
