Hardcover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. HARD TO FIND /Can You Top This? is a legendary comedy joke book written in 1945 by vaudeville veterans "Senator" Ed Ford, Harry Hershfield, and Joe Laurie Jr. It compiles the best jokes from their hit 1940s NBC radio panel show where comedians competed to out-humor each other jokes were the most laugh-out-loud funny of all and Laurie's came in a close second. By today's standards, Ford's jokes might be perceived as offensive to some but he still had a great sense of humor. The pages are turning brown from age and as this was till the wartime paper, it is fragile. No unwanted marks. 1940's Home station WOR Saturday night hit radio show last 30 minutes. These three comedians told joke after joke on a radio show (that gave this book compilation its title), each trying to outdo one another. This the book based on these wise crackers funny bones. cartoonist Harry Hershfield (illustrator).

Photograph. Zustand: Near fine. Signed Photograph. Photograph measures 16" x 13." Printed in black and white with white border. The word "Bentsen" in pencil on the back panel. Signed by Alan Greenspan in black pen. Inscribed by President Gerald Ford: "With warmest personal regards, and with appreciation of our fine friendship. Very best wishes. Jerry Ford." Provenance: From The Estate of The Honorable Lloyd & Beryl Ann Bentsen, September, 2020. When President Ford took office in August of 1974, the United States economy was beset with high unemployment and inflation. As a conservative, President Ford sought ways to encourage personal responsibility to combat inflation, without dramatic increases in government spending. This conference resulted in the Whip Inflation Now (WIN) program, which encouraged disciplined spending habits. It is regarded as a blunder by the Ford Administration, with people mocking the acronym and being viewed as too small an initiative to fix the economic issues. Photograph of President Gerald R. Ford, Senator Lloyd Bentsen and Alan Greenspan, inscribed by President Ford to Senator Bentsen. Additionally signed by Alan Greenspan. This photograph was taken on September 5th, 1974 at the Conference on Inflation, (illustrator). Signed.
