In den Warenkorbpaperback. 2015 reprint. This item was First published by Whitcombe & Tombs as No.7 in the New Zealand Booklet Series, 1906. It is now presented in black gift box with the cover of the booklet laid on the lid. It is accompanied by a 12pp pamphlet of biographical details, newspaper articles and pictures, 'Charles Reginald Ford 18…80-1972: notes on an adventurous life' by Crispin de Boos; a coloured reproduction of 4pp advertisement for the graphic lecture 'Farthest South' presented by Ford in Australia; and two reproduction Antarctic postcards. Ford's booklet is 32pp, with 13 illustrations, the cover is linen-textured card. Only 400 copies have been produced. This is probably the rarest of all first-hand accounts of Scott's Discovery Expedition. Ford was a steward on the expedition and is notable mainly for being the first man to break his leg skiing in the Antarctic. Upon the Expedition's return Ford acted as Scott's secretary during the leader's lecture tour. Some of his photographs were used by Scott in The Voyages of the 'Discovery'. He moved to New Zealand in 1906 and began to study architecture and later became a partner in one of that country's most prestigious firms. Antarctica was published privately in 1908 and this is a facsimile of his original booklet. Ford, in a letter to a friend in 1963, confirmed that Scott himself gave him permission firstly to lecture in England and then later in Canada and Australia and also to write a book. Glacier Books are experienced and professional booksellers. We take pride in offering carefully described books and excellent customer service.

In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition. 8vo. pp. 31; 13 illusts.; very good in the original pictorial yap wrappers, somewhat age-toned to margins inside of wrappers, creased to margins of wrappers, but overall a very good copy. Ford's account of his time on Scott's Discovery expedition is one of very few publ…ications by an expedition member. Issued as the seventh publication of the New Zealand booklet Series, Ford's work is very uncommon, and seems to have been published as a form of keepsake by the author.
