Buch
Paperback. Zustand: Good. A unique insight into Shakespeare's most monumentally complex character - and the play that bears his name - from a widely experienced actor and former academic. The seeds of this book were sown when the renowned Almeida Theatre asked Oliver Ford Davies to play King Lear in their forthcoming production.Playing Lear is not just a rehearsal diary - though Ford Davies shows us much of the process involved in finding his character. Rather, the book is a companion-guide to the whole notion of Lear, written from the inside by a mightily experienced actor (formerly both an academic and a drama critic) who brings a restless and questing intelligence to the infinitely complex business of 'playing Lear'. The book has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact. Some minor wear to the spine.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - A theme that obsessed Shakespeare in over 20 plays from Titus Andronicus to The Tempest was the relationship between a daughter and her father. This study traces chronologically the development of this theme, relating it to the little we know of his own two daughters, and sheds new light on his exploration of the family that so dominated his approach to drama. Drawing on a lifetime's experience of playing Shakespearean roles, Oliver Ford Davies, a former university lecturer and now an Honorary Associate Artist of the RSC and Olivier Award winner, has written an engaging and deeply researched study of a topic that has intrigued him from playing Capulet in 1967, King Lear in 2002, to Polonius in 2008.
