ill. OPappband. / Hardcover. 1. Aufl. With BLOOM, Thomas Flechtner continues to go his own way as an artist. In his internationally acclaimed debut publication SNOW, he took viewers by surprise with a compelling visual metaphysics of snow as the exploration of a psychological state. After exhibitions in London, New York, Bilbao, and Tokyo, Flechtner is now free to pursue a new passion, the unbridled color and movement of organic nature, which he examines with lyrical lightness and tremendous precision in these densely atmospheric studies of plants. As a photographer, Flechtner goes in search of the essence of nature, abandoning the ostensible safety of distance and allowing proximity and for the first time also movement. In BLOOM, the viewer is invited to take in a feast of light and color and to enter a space beyond nature's supposed laws. Broschur, quer 4°. Zustand: Sehr gut. 2000. 176 S. Das Buch ist in sehr gutem, sauberen Zustand. Einband minimal berieben. Sonst sauberes und wohlerhaltenes Exemplar. -----Inhalt:. Zustand: Hervorragend. Zustand: Hervorragend | Seiten: 286 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Over the last two decades, satellite gravimetry has become a new remote sensing technique that provides a detailed global picture of the physical structure of the Earth. With the CHAMP, GRACE, GOCE and GRACE Follow-On missions, mass distribution and mass transport in the Earth system can be systematically observed and monitored from space. A wide range of Earth science disciplines benefit from these data, enabling improvements in applied models, providing new insights into Earth system processes (e.g., monitoring the global water cycle, ice sheet and glacier melting or sea-level rise) or establishing new operational services. Long time series of mass transport data are needed to disentangle anthropogenic and natural sources of climate change impacts on the Earth system. In order to secure sustained observations on a long-term basis, space agencies and the Earth science community are currently planning future satellite gravimetry mission concepts to enable higher accuracy and better spatial and temporal resolution. This Special Issue provides examples of recent improvements in gravity observation techniques and data processing and analysis, applications in the fields of hydrology, glaciology and solid Earth based on satellite gravimetry data, as well as concepts of future satellite constellations for monitoring mass transport in the Earth system.

Schöb Buchdruck-Offsetdruck, Zurich from separations made by Egli.Kunz & Partner, Glattbrugg, Zurich. 14 3/4 x 11 3/4 inches. This first edition was limited to 1500 hardbound copies. Out of print. Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket (lower-left corner is bumped, lightly affecting some of the text block). From the publisher: "In Thomas Flechtner's photographs, snow becomes a metaphor for timelessness, stillness, peace, distance, and loneliness. Both civilization and the untouched countryside succumb to the white weight of this element, undergoing a transformation equally enigmatic and physically definitive, overwhelmingly magical and bitterly cold. Bereft of people, Flechtner's images of snow-covered places cause the viewer to pine for silence and transparency, for buildings bleached by their coats of hard frost and ice floes broken into unstable shards. In their elegant, often abstracted compositions and the diversity of their shades of white, Flechtner's photographs also admit the poignancy of the artist's perceptive abilities." Signed by Author.

Observations from space are the only means to monitor and quantify these changes on a global and long-term p- spective. Continuous time series of a large set of Earth system parameters are needed in order to better understand the processes causing these changes, as well as their interactions. This knowledge is needed to build comprehensive Earth s- tem models used for analysis and prediction of the changing Earth. Geodesy and geophysics contribute to the understanding of system Earth through the observation of global parameter sets in space and time, such as tectonic motion, Earth surface deformation, sea level changes and gravity, magnetic and atmospheric elds. In the framework of the German geoscience research and development p- gramme GEOTECHNOLOGIEN, research projects related to the theme ¿Observing the Earth System from Space¿ have been funded within two consecutive phases since 2002, both covering 3 years. The projects address data analysis and model development using the satellite missions CHAMP, GRACE, GOCE and comp- mentary ground or airborne observations. The results of the rst phase projects have been published in the Springer book, titled ¿Observation of the Earth System from Space¿, edited by Flury, Rummel, Reigber, Rothacher, Boedecker and Schreiber in 2006. The present book, titled ¿System Earth via Geodetic-Geophysical Space Techniques¿ summarizes in 40 scienti c papers the results of eight coordinated research projects funded in the second phase of this programme (2005¿2008).
